What is Pack-Set?

There are many companies in the world specializing in the processing of cement and minerals. Their main job is to process the raw material through the use of mills so to reduce the rocks to dust.

One of the main problems related to the processing of rock or clinker, the basic component of cement, is due to the structure of the materials and generally results in defects in the structure or small cracks.

Given the high temperatures and fineness that the material must reach, once the rocks are introduced into the grinding mill, the ion bonds that hold their particles together break, causing electrostatic charging and consequently attraction between the grinding bodies and the ground product. This physical phenomenon of agglomeration is called Pack-Set.

The effects of the Pack-Set and how to inhibit them

The consequences of the Pack-Set are many and negative, especially those directly attributable to the processing plants. The formation of the Pack-Set, in fact, leads to enormous waste of energy, material and time in industrial plants, which then translate into a loss of resources and money.

When the Pack-Set is formed inside a mill, a large part of the ground material cannot be extracted, which means that much more raw material and electricity will be needed to obtain a certain quantity of processed product.

ROMIchem, a company based in Castano Primo, is specialized in the production of Pack-Set inhibitors, special additives that, when mixed with the material to be ground before it enters the mill, helping to neutralize electrostatic charges, thus increasing the workability and fluidity of the raw material and therefore the production of the same energy used. In addition, ROMIchem grinding aids improve the efficiency of the grinding circuit and the grain size curve and reduce the consumption of the grinding bodies. The quality of the ground material also benefits.

All the products offered by ROMIchem are highly customized and designed to satisfy every customer’s need. All this translates into an increase in production that can range from 5 to 15%, a percentage that varies depending on the conditions inside the mill and the material used.
